Report:

It was back to the Ressi for the lads again for the third Junior match this season and the biggest turn out so far with nine anglers attending this float only match.

Expectations were high and everyone eager to show off their float skills , so once the draw had taken place it was off to the respective pegs. Again we had a new faces on the scene in that of Jack Odell and Kyle Odell (not brothers ), so welcome to Jack and Kyle . Jack drew peg 8 which was in the trees on the corner and put him on his own as all the other lads picked pegs mainly at the other end of the lake so it was either going to be a good peg or a quite day for Jack. But Jack kept plugging away and ended with a respectable 4lb 1oz of carp. Kyle drew Peg 10 in the middle of the lake and the most exposed peg in the sun.

So the lads all got off to a bit of a slow start which as it was float only was expected as everybody had to workout if the fish were  feeding top or bottom, first to start steadily was Jake on peg 4 who fished maggot and meat over groundbait all day, really concentrating on feeding the same spot and this paid off as the carp moved in after a few nice rudd. Jake fished the perfect match and put a massive 25lb 5oz on the scales. Next up was Liam on peg 11, he went straight out on the pole, which was a smart move and the carp started to show as he fished along side the lily pads close in on meat ,Liam showed some excellent pole skills and put 25lb 8oz on the scales ,on the peg to his right and peg 12 was Aaron who found his peg a little slow but he persevered and kept plugging away but he never gave up and weighed in 6lb 2oz .  Opposite him was Alfie Nicholls on peg 1, he to found that this end of the lake was going to be hard  but like Aaron he plugged away picking up lots of sliver fish .  With time disappearing the carp suddenly started to show and Alfie showed why he is as good as he is by spotting that they had come up in the water so following them he gradually started to build up a huge weight and at the weigh in he put 36lb 12oz on the scales.    Peg 2 had Ewan again struggling to pick up the carp but silver fish were building up his weight steadily along with Ollie on peg 3 who found himself in better territory than the last match when he was the only one on float so this was going to a great test for him. Both lads had a great day and Ollie showed his skill at float fishing by blitzing his first match weight by landing 13lb 10oz and Ewan also picking carp off the top and weighing in 16lb 12oz. Kyle on peg 11 was another one who found that the carp were not playing ball but with his own fan club ( how many brothers and sisters ????) coming along to support him he was not going to let this match be his first and last. At the weigh in he could hardly lift the net and put a massive first match weight of 25lb 10z on the scales.

Between Kyle and Jack was Daniel who had a peg that we do not normally put in but Daniel played a blinder and started close in next to the lilys picking up carp and started to build up a great weight he weighed in 7lb 70z from a difficult peg.

All in all it was a great match, well attended by not only the anglers but by the parents and families  who gave the day a great buzz at the weigh-in, but the stand out performance’s on the day were from Kyle and Alfie. Kyle Odell  never gave up and put all his enthusiasm in to plugging away and even had a fish on at the whistle to bag a fantastic weight which with another couple of fish would have seen him challenge for second place so a huge well done to Kyle. Then there was Alfie Nicholls who blitzed every one else by 10lb, he started slow but as all good anglers do he worked and watched and changed to the fish,  producing a truly awesome bag of carp and sliver fish , realising the fish had come up in the water he produced a huge weight and on the float too so well done Alfie top angling .

Next match is at the Brogbough Lagoon on the 6th August 2016 see you all there
